うーん、これ、なかなかわかりづらい。。。

1 Ears are more susceptible to frostbite than fingers.

2 An ear is more susceptible to frostbite than a finger.

3 The ear is more susceptible to frostbite than the finger.

4 The ears are more susceptible to frostbite than the fingers.

耳は指より凍傷にやられやすい。

１が一番自然（そもそも耳も指も複数あるものだし）。

３と４は The が「その」という意味なのかどうなのか判断しにくく、抽象的・学問的・アカデミックに響く。また、４は、通常、限定された個体の集まりを指し、一般的・総称的な用法はまれ。

一般的・総称的用法の the。発明品などは必ず the。

１は概念としてのコンピューター（一般的・総称的用法）、２は色々なコンピューターについて記述。

両親は私に１台の望遠鏡と望遠鏡に関する本をくれた。

about the telescope の the は、一般的・総称的用法。望遠鏡という発明物を意味する。
